What Does “Christ” Mean?

“Christ” is not a surname. It is a title—the Anointed One.

Within the Hebrew context, the title has a clear meaning: a person chosen and anointed by God to carry out a specific mission.

One of the most frequently used titles by Jesus in the Gospel accounts is the Son of Man, a title that highlights his role within humanity and the mission entrusted to him by God.

The Humanity of Jesus

Jesus was born, grew up, experienced hunger, fatigue, and prayer. His humanity was not an obstacle to his mission—it was the very means through which it was fulfilled.

According to the eyewitness accounts, the power and wisdom seen in Jesus came from the Spirit of God dwelling within him. He did not act independently from God, nor did he speak from his own authority.
